Rating Comments: This individual was the PPC candidate in the 2019 federal election. In his response to CLC's 2019 federal questionnaire, Mr. Klerks showed some openness to pro-life values, but his support for abortion based on gestational criteria, for assisted suicide, and for compelling health care professional to violate their conscience by issuing referrals for procedures they oppose all serve to make Mr. Klerks not supportable by CLC (see Quotes tab).

Here are quotes from Kevin Klerks on various life and family issues:

Expressing his belief that health care professionals should be forced to refer for procedure that they oppose and will not perform themselves:  I could not answer yes or no. I support the rights of health care professionals to refuse to perform medical procedures which they oppose. I do not support their right to refuse referrals of the patient to another health care professional. If we lived in a country with an abundance of doctors available, it might be different but with our current system a patient may have no choice but to be attended to by a biased individual. [Response to CLC's federal election questionnaire, September 12, 2019]

Explaining his support for the killing of unborn children by abortion within certain limits:  "I personally believe that life begins with the first detection of a viable heartbeat (fetal age: 5 weeks) therefore a period of time exists before this when a mother may choose to exercise pro-choice in whether or not to terminate their pregnancy." [Response to CLC's federal election questionnaire, September 12, 2019]

Justifying his support for giving medical practitioners licence to kill their patients who ask for assisted suicide:  "I had to answer no because these are two completely different subjects which cannot be viewed together so casually. I do not support euthanasia as I feel the individual affected did not make the clear conscious choice to terminate their life. However, if someone chose assisted-suicide how would telling them ‘no’ be protecting them? Do people not have the right to free will to choose their own fate?" [Response to CLC's federal election questionnaire, September 12, 2019]
